Threading the Tribal Tapestry

70% movement, 30% lecture
Experience Tribal Style (TS) belly dance through the exploration of movements from their roots as learned from last year’s KYDR TS history workshop, Lost in Translation.  We’ll establish a foundation in the Tribal posture and expand on what we learned last year by threading core TS dance movements through their lineage, towards what we know today as Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. You know the history, you know the difference, now FEEL its evolution! New KYDR students are highly encouraged to attend the Friday evening review session so that everyone is on the same page, literally.  Yes, new students will receive access to all the sourced study material provided to last years attendees, including Salimpour family and American Tribal Style (r) historical collectables.

Sunday, August 9th

11 AM-2 PM Latifa presents Middle Eastern Roots – a Folkloric Sampler

The dance form we know as Belly Dance, whether performed on its own or blended into Fusion, came to us from the traditional dances of the Middle East. Every well-rounded dancer should know something about these dances, and Latifa will help you along this journey. Middle Eastern Roots is a folkloric dance sampler. Latifa will present three different dance styles – Sa’idi and Nubian from Egypt, and Khaleegy (Gulf Style) dance from the countries of the Arabian Peninsula. Each presentation will include geographical and cultural background, along with traditional authentic steps and movements put together into combinations or a short choreography, to help you remember them. Handouts provided. Students who learn Latifa’s Nubian dance will have a chance to perform the dance with Latifa at the hafla at Rangoli’s later that day!

6-8 PM Hafla at Rangoli’s! Here’s the Facebook event with all the info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1180572268636168/

Workshop package is $195 for all students. Each individual workshop is $60. Select your option below.
