January 26, 2013 @ 2:00 pm - January 27, 2013 @ 7:00 pm

Don’t miss this exciting new event with Katrina and Latifa! It can help you become the dancer you’ve always dreamed of being. Students will perform in an afternoon hafla at the Casablanca Restaurant on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The next morning, each student will meet privately with Katrina and Latifa to receive performance feedback and suggestions for dance growth. After a short break, Katrina and Latifa will teach a series of one-hour workshops designed to give you the building blocks you need to become a better dancer. The afternoon will be capped off with tips for developing your personal dance plan. As Latifa’s mentor, the late Ibrahim Farrah, used to say, “Why be good, when you can be great?”

The number of participants will be limited, because of the focus on individual coaching.

These skills will allow you present a dance to your audience that isn’t frantic but threads a beautiful story through movement.

4:30-5:30 Workshop with Latifa: Add Some Khaleegy Spice to Your Elegant Oriental
  • There are some wonderful pieces of Egyptian entrance music that contain little samples of various folkloric rhythms, including Khaleegy, or Gulf, rhythm. Latifa will teach basic Khaleegy technique, then show students how to effectively incorporate this dance into an oriental show. Please bring a veil.
5:30-6:30 Workshop with Katrina: Captivating Taqsims: Gooey Undulations & Graceful Arms
